The Yankees hit three more home runs and scored double-digit runs for the second consecutive game, defeating the Royals 11-5 on Wednesday night in Kansas City.

The Yankees' Early Offensive Surge

The Yankees led the MLB in first-inning runs heading into Wednesday's game, and they extended that advantage with six against Royals opener Dan Altavilla. The key hits were Alex Verdugo's two-run single with the bases loaded and Jose Trevino's three-run homer, which put the Yankees up 6-0 after one. The Yankees have 57 first-inning runs this season. In the first three games of this series, the Yankees have scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Stanton's Continued Power Display

After going 0-for-14 in the Dodgers series, Giancarlo Stanton hit his second home run in as many days. On Wednesday, Stanton hit a 449-foot home run to left center. The slugger went 2-for-5 and has 17 home runs this season. The Yankees blasted three home runs on Tuesday (Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Austin Wells), and they duplicated the feat on Wednesday with home runs from Trevino, Stanton, and Gleyber Torres' three-run blast in the seventh.

Cody Poteet took the mound for the Yankees and pitched another good game. In 5.1 innings, the right-hander allowed two runs on four hits and three walks (88 pitches/52 strikes). He also struck out two hitters. In four starts this season, Poteet has not allowed more than two runs in any game.

Bullpen's Shaky Performance

Following Poteet, the bullpen became problematic. Ian Hamilton and Tommy Kahnle combined to allow three runs to score in the seventh inning, and it could have been more if Judge hadn't made a great diving catch to end it.
